Today: 70 years Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Marrakech Women’s Rights Manifesto Monday December 10th, 2018
Today is the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)! Today, in 1948 the UN General Assembly proclaimed this declaration as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into over 500 languages. Here you can read the illustrated version of the declaration the UN has produced for the occasion.
Unfortunately, in 2018, the situation of human rights is getting worse. Refugees and migrants, among others, are facing massive human rights violations. The Global Compact for Migration is good step to remedy these complicated issues. Nonetheless, there are some key issues that the compact doesn’t yet adequately address – especially the rights of women and girls. Therefore, GCAP has signed the Marrakech Women’s Rights Manifesto.
