International Women’s Day 2026 Newsletter Thursday March 5th, 2026
Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls
The Women and Feminists Constituency Group of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) stands in solidarity with women and girls facing rising violence, widening inequalities, caste discrimination and shrinking civic space.
Thirty years after the commitments made at the Fourth World Conference on Women, progress remains fragile. Gender-based violence persists with impunity. Funding for gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and prevention of violence is being cut. Austerity and debt policies deepen unpaid care burdens and economic insecurity for women — especially informal, domestic and care workers.
When democracy weakens, women suffer first and most.
We refuse to accept this rollback.

Our Call

We urge governments to:
- End impunity for violence against women and girls
- Protect women human rights defenders and civic space
- Restore funding for gender equality and feminist movements
- Guarantee universal, rights-based social protection as a state obligation
- Invest in care systems and recognise unpaid care work
The promises made in Beijing must be accelerated — not abandoned.
