The GCAP National Coalition in Nicaragua is RENICC – Fundación Red Nicaragüense de Comercio Comunitario (Nicaraguan Foundation of Communal Trade).

The Network promotes local economic development and has contributed to improving the incomes of its members by helping to eradicate poverty and inequality in rural and urban areas, and follows up on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Escazú Agreement through monitoring processes and studies on inequality at national, regional and global levels.

The Foundation is made up of social and productive organisations that support small and medium-sized producers, artisans, cooperatives with priority to youth, women and older adults. Centered around guiding themes of an alternative economy, agroecology, community tourism, community trade with consumers and to impact public policy.

The organisation is currently (2021) engaged in a re-launch of its Mission and Vision based on the limitations and obstacles that have arisen in the last two years with Covid19. This has involved a process of evaluation of the 2016-2020 Strategic Planning and Re-engineering of its staff, with a focus on political, economic and social rights based on the needs of local economic actors.

General Objectives:

  1. a) Facilitate training, capacity building and participation processes through legal, commercial and economic instruments that enable the development of capacities and skills in agroecology, organisation and commercialisation techniques, and inclusion.
  2. b) Promote community resilience with a focus on sustainable management of natural resources, which strengthens mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change.

The General Assembly of Members, the Board of Directors and the Regional Council.

Executive Level: The Executive Directorate of RENICC.

Operational Level: This level is made up of those responsible for carrying out the operations, records, evaluation and control of the various economic and financial events that take place in RENICC, and therefore constitute the technical support of the decisions to be taken at the executive and higher levels.
