Established in 2009, the Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID) brings together 23 development NGOs with diverse expertise in development education, human rights, gender, minorities’ rights/education/integration, disability, children and youth, social inclusion, health. The Platform is governed by the General Assembly (GA), which gathers every year and votes for the management board members, the chairperson and the approval of new organizations to become members of the Platform. The elected management board consists of six persons and elects the president of the board. The board members are responsible for the decision making and reporting to the GA. The everyday coordination and operational work is done by the national coordinator.

In 2015, BPID signed the first ever Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since then BPID is an official partner of the Ministry for the development cooperation issues, initiatives, programmes and projects related to Bulgaria’s participation at EU and UN level.

BPID is prioritizing its activities on SDGs in line with the expertise of the BPID members and the thematic directions for work of the Bulgarian government described in the Mid-term Programme for Bulgarian Participation in International Development (2016-2019) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In its last activities BPID refers to the set priorities and more precisely on the issues related to SDG 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages), SDG 4 (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all) and SDG 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and their linkage to SDG 1 (End poverty in all its forms everywhere) and SDG 16 (Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels).

Additionally, BPID is the most visible and active organization in Bulgaria for promotion of all SDGs and advocacy for their implementation.

Activities on Inequalities:

Most of the activities (both of the Platform and of each member organization) refer to the goals to reduce inequalities. BPID increased its visibility and influence in the countries of the Western Balkans and the Black sea region and is planning to work with partners for those countries and improve the civil society involvement in advocacy and implementation of the SDGs in the region.

Main Constituency groups:

According to the BPID strategic plan there are 5 priority/thematic areas of work and respectively working groups among members: Advocacy (on national, EU and international level); Global education and promotion of all SDGs, Health issues, Supporting democratic processes and developing civil society in neighboring countries; Humanitarian aid and integration.
