GCAP Ghana is a network of organisations that work with persons with disabilities, women’s associations, faith-based groups, youth groups and healthcare advocacy groups. National member organisations have a bottom-up approaching, working closely with community-based groups. Holding governments accountable to their commitments to the Agenda 2030 is a key task for us. GCAP Ghana has a comprehensive monitoring plan that employs social accountability tools, ensuring the government’s claims of goal-fulfilment is backed up by evidence-based research. Grassroots participation in monitoring will be given full support at the local level to ensure that ‘No One is Left Behind’ and that meaningful participation is achieved by all rights-holders. The situation in Ghana is challenging, especially regarding the participation of women and other marginalized people in the country. Many marginalized groups do not have access to a platform to express their concerns. Their participation in decision-making at the local level must be strengthened. Another challenge is translating the Global Agenda to local issues, and to create a sense of meaningful engagement. GCAP Ghana is governed by a national coordinating team which meets to plan and implement programs based upon the current lead topic and theme of the platform. Proposals by the national coordination team are circulated for feedback among all member organisation. Joint research on inequalities with policy organisations in Ghana and within the network of the SDG platform are also carried out.
